It’s a Wild Ride! There is nothing quite like the thrill of the Keltenblitz Sommerrodelbahn on a warm summer day in Salzburg. After a picture perfect 30 minute drive in the direction Hallein, you arrive at the Sommerrodelbahn Bad Dürrnberg. Wear closed toed shoes and get ready for Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. You start with a scenic trip up the Bad Dürrnberg Chairlift, then you strap yourself onto a plastic toboggan and it’s full speed ahead. It’s the most fun you can have while hurtling down a two kilometer plus metal rail!
The toboggans are equipped with a governor to keep you from flying off into the Austrian countryside while speeding around corners, but at the time a near death experience seems much more likely. Along the hairier twists and turns you will see a large sign that says “Bremse” which means “hit the brakes”. According to my children however, braking is not an option. Everyone is welcome and even the smallest tyke can take a ride on Papa’s lap. Keltenblitz only operates only in clear weather when the skies are blue but if you see lightning, abandon ship!
Address: Weissenwaschweg 19, Bad Dürrnberg, Hallein

Your blog is wonderful and so well written. I’m a friend of Emmaleise so of course I heard much about Salzburg and your descriptions make is so real. I’ll be there in October with Sharyn Flanigan, whom I’m sure you know. We’re very excited and can hardly wait. Looking forward to more of your travel musings.
